Immobility and Fear: the Somatic Connection

The Covid-19 pandemic presents mental health professional with unique challenges. However, we are now confronted with a potentially lethal pathogen, one that we cannot see and that we don’t have an evolutionary prepared active response to meet. This can lead to chronic shutdown, collapse, fear, helplessness, anxiety and depression.

By learning how to help shift our interoceptive (internal) experience, we can move from helplessness to empowerment with a greater capacity to live in the here-and-now, without undue fear.
